FAQ

There is a hard deadline for the Moralis x Google 2022 Defining DeFi hackathon on November 11th, 23:59 UTC.

This means your hackathon project needs to be submitted before this time for it to be judged in the hackathon.

All deadlines listed for the hackathon, unless otherwise specified, are at 23:59 UTC.

Hackathon projects will be submitted using a submission form.

The submission form will allow you to attach a ~5-minute pitch video with a project overview where you can demo the project.

You will also be able to submit a deck or document outlining the project, its use cases, the team behind it, go-to-market strategy, etc. You will also submit your email address, as well as a GitHub link to the project.

The submission form will be published on this page by October 17th, so you will have plenty of time to submit your project before November 11th.

The following reasons will be grounds for disqualification:

  • Late submission (after November 11th, 23:59 UTC)
  • The project was built for another hackathon
  • The project does not adhere to the hackathon rules
  • The project was built before the start of the hackathon
  • Plagiarism

Plagiarism defined as: Starting from a pre-existing codebase that you are not authorized to use or did not create. If starting with any code other than your own (see “Is it allowed to continue an existing project?” for details), it must be an authorized boilerplate provided by an official hackathon sponsor.

It is allowed to continue building an existing project and submit it in this hackathon. However, only the features added after the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi hackathon starting date will be judged. When submitting an existing project, you must clearly specify what parts of the project are new and what was created before the start of the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi hackathon.

Any thing that introduces financial utility, while utilizing blockchain resources, counts as DeFi. This includes DeFi apps, Game-Fi, Social-Fi, and other Web3 methods of implementing alternative finance.

You can begin building your project for the hackathon following the Opening Ceremony on October 3rd. Make sure to check back to this page for all the latest details.

There’s no need to use Google Cloud to qualify for prizes in the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi Hackathon.
Yes! All Moralis hackathons require you to develop your dapp using Moralis, unless otherwise explicitly outlined in a bounty prize description that the bounty does not require the use of Moralis.
If the dapp involves smart contracts, then any contracts must be deployed to an eligible mainnet or testnet. Both testnet and mainnet projects are eligible for prizes unless otherwise explicitly stated.

Our judges will carefully go through each Moralis x Google Defining DeFi hackathon submission during the judging process.

However, due to the number of hackathon participants, our hackathon judges will not be able to provide individual feedback for the submitted projects.

The Moralis x Google Defining DeFi hackathon is a fully remote hackathon. This means the entire hackathon will take place online so that you can participate wherever you are based. Make sure to sign up to the official Moralis YouTube and Moralis Web3 Community YouTube to catch all hackathon workshops.

The winners of the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi hackathon will be announced on November 23rd during the Closing Ceremony.

Make sure to sync your calendar with the official Moralis x Google Defining DeFi calendar so that you’ll never miss a single event.
Each prize winner will receive payment instructions from the sponsoring party following the closing ceremony. Payment of prizes will be initiated within 10 days of the closing ceremony, following successful completion of KYC as defined by the paying sponsor. While we encourage our sponsors to make prompt payment to our winners following each hackathon, in rare cases, validation of KYC and payment may take up to 30 days.
Winning team submissions will receive a payout to the team itself, rather than several payouts to the team members. It is up to the team to distribute their winnings internally amongst the team members.
There is no restriction on team size. Keep in mind that teams will themselves need to distribute any potential hackathon prizes internally among its team members.
Yes! Teams in the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi Hackathon can submit more than one project.
Participants in the Moralis x Google Defining DeFi Hackathon can maximum be part of one team at a time. Before the submission deadline you can change teams freely, so you can take your time deciding the structure of your team.
